Simulation

The Pacific Maritime Institute/Maritime Institute of Technology is a non-profit vocational, continuing education center for professional mariners. The Institute provides training for civilian and military mariners at every level of their career. PMI is dedicated to assisting mariners maintain and advance their qualifications, assisting individuals seeking to enter the maritime profession, and providing simulation research services for the maritime industry.

Our 15,000 square foot facility features is also home to Transas Marine USA, a marine technology company that specializes in marine simulation and navigation systems. This allows PMI to offer some of the most impressive simulation systems currently in use for educational and vocational training. Currently the facility houses one 240° DNV Class A Full Mission Bridge Simulator, one 330° Full Mission Tugboat Simulator, four Norcontrol Radar/ARPA Simulators, ten Transas Desktop ‘Fast Time’ Simulators in an ECDIS/Electronic Navigation Lab, one Radio Communications Lab, two Simulation Debriefing Rooms (fully integrated with Fast Time and Real-Time Simulators), and three additional classrooms, one of which can seat 50 people.

PMI also provides portable desktop simulation for ‘Fast Time’ simulation analysis. The portable simulator has all the functionality of the full-mission simulator software.

In the following sections, you will learn more about the simulators and the technology that allow PMI to offer such a comprehensive program for its students to gain knowledge and experience. This is as close to the real thing as possible in a controlled and safe environment.
