2008 Schedule

 

Introduction

This program fulfills all of the STCW95 training requirements needed to attain a Mate’s License up to ‘Unlimited’. Completion of the program will provide students with the knowledge, skills, and confidence necessary to take on the duties and responsibilities of a Mate. Program courses are outlined below. The AB to Mate Program starts in January and June each year.  We are also starting a February program.

Program Overview

Total clock hours with required courses: 649 hours – 18.4 weeks total Total clock hours with optional courses included: 724 hours – 21.4 weeks total Scope: After completing this training individuals will be ready to test with the USCG for a Mate license.

Affiliations

We offer, within our programs, courses through our affiliation with Fremont Maritime Services, (http://www.sea-safety.com/), and Compass Courses (http://www.compasscourses.com/).  Both of these schools are highly respected within the industry and are USCG approved. 

Admission Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Recognized Equivalency or ASSET Placement Test (see link below for assistance on Asset tests)    
  • Identification (MMD,Passport), or Valid Driver's License or State I.D.)
  • Signed Enrollment Agreement
  • Completed Registration Form
  • Signed Payment Schedule*
  • Deposit

Note: The Able Seaman to Mate candidate must also meet all physical, security, character, and oath requirements outlined by the United States Coast Guard for Officer in Charge of a Navigational Watch (OICNW) as defined in 46CFR and Policy Letter 01-02.

*Regardless of whether or not an applicant is applying for a Student Loan, he or she is required to sign a Payment Schedule.
