Course Description
This course is required for all Able Seamen
upgrading to 3rd Mate/2nd Mate, as well as for anyone
that is looking at raising the scope of their license to
include Oceans. It covers the
most common forms of position fixing by celestial
bodies.
Note: For Raise of Scope,
this course is in lieu of a USCG Examination.
Course Subjects
- Nautical Astronomy
- Sextant and Altitude Correction
- Sight Reduction and Lines of Position (all
bodies)
- Meridian Transit (all bodies)
- Time of Sunrise/Sunset
- Star Identification and Selection
